A MUM has explained why she allows her baby to chew on rocks, sand, dirt and sticks and defends her decision despite receiving a string of abuse online.
Alice Bender, 22, from Arizona, US, also thinks baby formula should be illegal and documents her child-rearing methods on TikTok.
Criticising the full-time mum, some people argued that chewing on such things is “unsanitary”, but Alice says she “does not fear bacteria” and actually “welcomes it.”
Alice also follows a vegan diet and she is raising her son Fern as naturally as possible – with a strictly vegan diet and no sleep schedule.
She shared videos of Fern sucking on rocks and even shopping trolley handles, which left some people asking why.
“I do not fear bacteria,” she said. “In fact, I welcome it.

“I trust nature and I trust my baby.
“It is not a coincidence babies have this instinct when they are breastfeeding.”
From around three months of age tots often use their mouth to explore the world – this is known as “baby mouthing,” according to Healthline.
As a result, many parents are constantly moving things out of the way and out of reach of curious babies so they don’t put it in their mouth.
But some parents, including Alice, believe “baby mouthing” helps kids to develop a robust immune system.

Alice also referred to the “allopathic industry” in the clip, saying it’s “taken the world by storm.”
“This did not happen by accident, it happened after a series of billion-dollar campaigns intended to shift the public’s perspective on health,” she said.
Allopathy refers to science-based, conventional medicine rather than alternative medicine or homeopathy, with allopathy using drugs or surgery to treat disease.
Alice’s video has been viewed more than 12 million times and has sparked a a roaring debate in the comments.
While many disagreed with Alice’s views, some actually agreed.
One wrote: “I get where you’re coming from, but also parasites, flesh-eating bacteria, meningitis, measles etc…”
“It’s one thing letting your child eat food off the ground, but you’re taking it too far,” added another.
One said: “I find it so weird when people shield their kids from everything.”
And another noted: “Your baby is going to have an amazing immune system.”
Alice started her TikTok page @comingupfern just before her son was born, to bring attention to her unconventional parenting views.

She now has 281,000 followers and her individual videos get up to 7.7 million views.
She previously told Fabulous: “I ended up meeting lots of moms on there who encouraged me to speak out about my views, and I realised not many people had heard of attachment parenting.
“I want people to know they have so many options when it comes to parenting, there’s more ways to raise a child than just what the mainstream tells us.”
