Who said Halloween costumes have to cost lots?

A mum has proved that you can be creative, ghoulish and win fancy dress competitions with things lying around the house.

Sam Howlett, from Surrey, picked up five things she had already and got to work.

The 27-year-old mum-of-two grabbed an old dress, some acrylic paint, newspaper, a cereal box, and a paper plate to give daughter Thoeora, eight, a creepy headless look.

The final outcome was shared on Facebook page Extreme Couponing and Bargains where users lapped it up.

Sharing the details of the creepy Halloween get-up, Sam’s post went viral, amassing 14,000 likes.

It gave plenty of other parents ideas about what to create for their little kiddies.

‘She’s very excited about that!’ Sam explained to Metro.co.uk when asked about Theora’s reaction to all the online love.

The youngster’s look was so impressive, she even won the school competition.

‘I used an old dress of mine and cut a hole out of the middle for her head to go through,’ Sam explained the steps.

‘I then stuffed the arms with newspaper and the back with an old cereal box which was superglued to the inside and stuffed with newspaper.

‘I painted the box and newspaper on the top with different shades of red.

Sam continued: ‘I used a paper plate as a collar around her neck and painted blood on that too and glued the ends of the arm to the underside of the plate.

‘I cut holes in the sides for her arms when she needs to use them and she had a maxi skirt the same colour that was mine to pull up over her arms when she didn’t need to use them.’

Though it was Sam who put it altogether, it was her husband who had the idea after watching a film.
