Mum admits she hates playing with her daughter – and is praised for her honesty

Being a parent comes with a number of challenges and can be pretty tiring.

One mum has recently confessed that there’s a certain aspect of parenting she doesn’t enjoy and has been praised for her honesty.

In a video on TikTok, a user named Lynn, who posts under @backbraker_lynn, admitted that she hates playing with her daughter.

She said: “Last night my daughter asked me to play with her and I hate doing that.

“I will take her for walks or go do something somewhere, but I don’t want to play with your Barbies.

“But, I felt bad as she’s an only child, so I said ok.”

“I did it. I very half-heartedly sat down and played Barbies with her for like 10 minutes, it wasn’t a big deal,” Lynn continued to explain.

“This morning she got up, got ready for school, super good mood and then she asked if I’d play Barbies with her again.

“And I was thinking ‘nooooo’, but then she said: ‘I had so much fun when you played Barbies with me last night’ and it about broke my heart, because if my half-hearted attempt to placate her meant THAT much then I could definitely do that again.

“So, I don’t know. Maybe if your kid asks you to play today, maybe take five minutes and do it.”

The video has since been watched over one million times and garnered more than 165,000 likes.

Thousands of people also took the time to comment, with some praising Lynn.

One person said: “No kids here but I’m SO SICK of parents not being real and raw about what parenting is REALLY like. Thank you for being honest.”

A second replied: “She did play with her. And she didn’t regret it. What happened to being honest as parents? It’s ok to not always feel 100%.”

A third wrote: “I needed to hear this. I am definitely a mum that can’t play pretend but I’m down for a board game or a walk.”

However, others didn’t like what Lynn had to say.

A different user commented: “I always remind myself that my baby didn’t ask to be here, I invited him out here, so I gotta keep my company happy.”

Someone else added: “Momma, there will be a day when she stops asking and you will only WISH she would ask for your time.”

“This made me so angry,” proclaimed another user.”How could you not have realised that your ONLY CHILD feels special when you spend time with her?”
