M&S launches the cretzel – a croissant pretzel hybrid

Way back in 2013, the world welcomed the cronut – the croissant doughnut hybrid.

And since then, the classic French pastry has been mixed up with many other baked goods.

We’ve had the cruffin, the croll and now, it’s the cretzel.

M&S has crossed the croissant with the pretzel to combine a chewy bite with luxurious buttery, flaky pastry of a croissant.

They’re all oven-baked in store and each one is topped in the traditional lye coating and finished with a sprinkling of sea salt.

According to M&S, they are delicious with lashings of butter or loaded with savoury fillings such ham and a mature Cheddar cheese.

M&S Bakery Product Developer – Kirsty Rowley said: ‘We are continually challenging ourselves to invent the next big thing in bakery.

‘Inspired by our customers love of the sweet and salty flavour combination (we see in the popularity of our sweet and salty popcorn) we bring them the Cretzel!

‘The cretzel combines those contrasting flavours and is really versatile, great on its own, with a coffee at breakfast or delicious with a filling for lunch.

‘We know our customers love a hybrid, we have had everything from a chouxnut to a cruffin and most recently the yumnut.  We think the creztel big hit with our customers.’

Each cretzel costs £1 and are available pre-bagged at the instore bakery now.

M&S foodhalls remain open with additional social distancing measures and special hours for older/vulnerable customers and NHS, health and social care workers.
