Moussa Dembele keen on Man Utd move as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seeks January transfer

Moussa Dembele is keen to join Manchester United despite only spending a year in France with Lille.

The 23-year-old forward moved back to his native France after impressing with Celtic, the club he joined after spending three years in the first-team at Fulham.

The robust striker is now keen to return to England, with Lyon struggling in Ligue 1.

ESPN have claimed that Dembele will favour a move to a top Premier League club rather than saying at Parc Olympique Lyonnais, and international colleague Boubakary Soumare could also join Solskjaer’s side.

The Norwegian boss is braced for the wantaway Paul Pogba to once again try and force through a move to Real Madrid in the summer, and scouts have that could take his place at Old Trafford.

The report claims that as well as his France Under-21 colleague Dembele, the Red Devils are considering a bid for the former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder.

Soumare has made 40 league appearances for Lille since joining in 2017, and has represented his country at six different youth levels.

The youngster is said to be rated around £33million, but he could join up for free in the summer as he approaches the end of his current contract.

Soumare will join the current crop of talented youngsters that includes Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but United are unlikely to be the only club showing interest over the next few months.

News emerged after the win over Norwich that World Cup winner Pogba will be on the sidelines for another month after he suffered a setback in his recovery from an ankle injury.

That update came as a blow to Solskjaer, who continues to navigate a tricky run of fixtures with a trip to Stamford Bridge in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.

Solskjaer said on Pogba: “I don’t think we’ll see him before December. He’ll be out for a while.

“He needs time to fully recover so I don’t think he will be back before maybe Sheffield United after the international break but probably December before you can see him.”

Solskjaer then added: “I’m not a doctor but there is an injury there that needs healing.

“There’s no use talking about who’s not going to be here for a long time because he’s not going to come on the pitch and help us. Paul’s been brilliant and he is the creative midfielder that we need but then it’s up to the others to step up.”

United’s win at Carrow Road was their second in a row after the 1-0 victory over Partizan in the Europa League on Thursday, but Frank Lampard’s Blues are set to put up more of a fight having won each of their last seven games.
