Mourinho insists Spurs have mentality to end trophy drought with Carabao Cup

Jose Mourinho insisted he will instil his winning mentality into Tottenham after staying on course to win his fifth League Cup.

Mourinho won it three times with Chelsea, once with Manchester United and insisted all of the big clubs take it seriously with Spurs hoping to secure their first piece of silverware in 13 years.

Tottenham boss Mourinho said: “I came to England 2004 and I remember in that period I had to learn the meaning of the cups here and I always took it seriously.

“If there is any secret it’s to always take it seriously and respect the teams with smaller quality and go with ambition.

“What I sense in the team is that winning mentality. The guys took it seriously. If you see the winners, you see that the big clubs want to win it.

“Who was the last winner outside of the normal top six? The big clubs care about it. When April arrives we have to be ready and to fight for the trophy.”

Tottenham will now face either United or Manchester City in the final on April 25 and Moussa Sissoko insists they can win the final.

Sissoko said: “It’s been a long time we are waiting for that moment. We are going to go to Wembley to play United or City, and we have to be ready.

“The last final we reached was the Champions League final and we lost, so we were disappointed for many months.

“You don’t only play a final. You have to win it, and hopefully we can bring the trophy home. We are in the final so it’s the time to win it.”

Brentford boss Thomas Frank admitted it was “heartbreaking” to lose the club’s first ever semi final while he also defended Josh Dasilva after his red card for an X-rated challenge on Pierre-Emile Højbjerg.

Frank said: “It hurts. I am always disappointed when we lost as it has been such a long time. I thought we had a chance. We were brave.

“I am not happy about the way we conceded the first. I am so proud of the players and I hope the fans are proud.

“There were words exchanged with me and Pierre but we know each other well. He slipped and if you know the player he has never done anything like that in training or matches. It should not be three games.”
