Motsi Mabuse: 'She’s in her own world’ Strictly judge says she ‘never’ sees sister Oti

This year, Motsi Mabuse, 38, joined Strictly Come Dancing 2019 as a judge following Dame Darcey Bussell’s departure.

Oti Mabuse, 28, is a professional dancer on the show and currently dances with Kelvin Fletcher, 35.

Speaking to press at The Pride Of Britain Awards 2019, Motsi said the sisters only see each other during the live show.

“I never see her, I see her on the dance floor and that’s it,” she said.

“I see her at the after party and say, ‘Hey, how are you,’ but that’s it, five to 20 minutes, I never see her. She’s in her own world now.”

The new judge went on to insist it was also hard for the pair to stay close as she’s based in Germany, while Oti lives in London.

Despite the latter and Kelvin being on the dance floor this year, Motsi went on to say she has no favourites.

“I don’t know, anyone can win. I don’t want to jinx anyone,” she added.

Earlier this month, Motsi Mabuse spoke out about the downside to her dancing career.

The Let’s Dance star recalled the time herself and Oti struggled to find a dance teacher while growing up in South Africa.

She told The Mirror: “Finding people to give us the instructions was difficult.

“It was a very difficult time in South Africa.

“So to be a little girl and push yourself in this type of dancing, where there are no other black girls, was really tough.”

She added their parents made “sacrifices” to get them into dancing and said their mother also learned how to sew to cut the costs of outfits.

Both Motsi and Oti have since gone on to have successful dance careers.

The new Strictly judge won the German Latin dance contest with the her now husband Evgenij Voznyukin in 2013.

She also danced on the RTL dance show Let’s Dance, before being appointed as a judge alongside Joachim Llambi and Jorge Gonzalez.

Oti joined Strictly Come Dancing in 2015 and is also a judge on BBC show The Greatest Dancer.

Strictly Come Dancing 2019 continues Saturday on BBC One.

The Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards, in partnership with TSB, will be broadcast on ITV on November 5 at 8pm.
