Britons are hopeful that they will be able to travel abroad this summer as many have already started to book foreign holidays, but with rises in coronavirus cases in Europe over the past few weeks, the situation remains uncertain. Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to confirm the next steps in his roadmap out of lockdown plans in April.
Although it is still unclear if Britons will be able to travel to Europe this summer, holiday searches continue to increase.
Booking.com has revealed the most popular summer travel destinations, both in the UK and beyond.
These destinations are trending, being the most searched for places by Britons.
Unsurprisingly, eight out of the ten most searched for destinations are in the UK, as the population remains realistic about the unpredictability of the coronavirus.

Bath, Edinburgh, Inverness, and York were also extremely popular searches.
However, Britons’ desire to travel abroad remains strong as some European countries appeared in the top 100 most searched for destinations.
Croatia, France, and Spain were amongst the most sought-after international nations.
The most popular locations within these countries were Paris, Barcelona, Marbella, Malaga, Split, and Dubrovnik.
Other top European searches included Rome and Sorrento.
Outside of Europe, many Britons were searching for Dubai, as well as Marrakech, in Morocco.
Ryan Pearson, Regional Manager at Booking.com, said: “Since the government announcement yesterday [Tuesday, March 23] there seems to be a real sense of optimism amongst us Brits and I am sure I am not the only one who is counting down the days until travel restrictions are eased.
“In light of the vaccine rollout and with many of us eager to experience the world once again, there is no surprise that we are seeing an increase in bookings for domestic summer getaways in particular – I personally cannot wait for some sun and sea with my family and the UK has so much to offer,” Mr Pearson added.
“We look forward to travel resuming when the time is right, and this is great news not only for travellers, but also for the tourism industry and economy as whole.”
On Tuesday, March 23, Prime Minister Boris Johnson thanked NHS staff and volunteers for their work in administering “the astounding vaccine roll-out”.
He said: “We will meet our targets, offering a first dose to everyone over 50 by the middle of next month, as well as those under 50 who are clinically vulnerable, and offering a first dose of the vaccine to every adult by the end of July.
“And cautiously but irreversibly, step by step, jab by jab, this country is on the path to reclaiming our freedoms,” Mr Johnson added.
