Montana Brown speaks out about diversity for Love Island's 2019 line-up

Love Island has been previously criticised for only showing a ‘certain type’ of body on the show.

This has led to many viewers commenting and creating memes complaining about the lack of different shapes and sizes.

One wrote: “Love Island definitely needs to spice up different body shapes and sizes to be honest. Just saying.”

Another agreed: “Why are there no curvy women or men with no muscles etc on Love Island? It isn’t all about your body – that’s not what makes you beautiful.”

As rumours circulate that the 2019 line-up will be cast with more diversity, Love Island reps told Daily Star Online: “We endeavour to have a diverse range of contestants appearing on the programme.”

“The only stipulations are that applicants are over 18, single and looking for love.”

With former Love Island star Montana Brown releasing her new swimwear line, which promotes body positivity, the 23-year-old spoke out about the issue in an exclusive interview with Daily Star Online.

Opening up, the Hertfordshire-born gal said: “I would love to see different body shapes on Love Island.

“People say there weren’t many curvy girls but I think there definitely have been. Jess [Shears] from my series had a fantastic figure and she is curvy, she looks phenomenal.”

Continuing, she declared: “I think people are always going to look to pick problems about Love Island – because it is such a massive show they are always going to get backlash.”

Talking about the ethos behind her swimwear line Swim Society, she shared: “I want women to be able to go to one website and for people of all sizes to feel comfortable, feel confident that they are going to get a good quality bikini that isn’t going to go see-throughout when you go in the pool.”

“It also just removes the categorisation and just says that you know what, it doesn’t matter what size you are, you can wear whatever you want because we love your body, we love the look.

“It doesn’t matter what size you are and that is really what we are trying to promote”, Montana added.

Getting a great response from fans already, Miss Brown shared: “We have absolutely been inundated with support, everybody says they love the brand, they love the ethos.

Even going to great lengths to make sure the campaign pics promoted the right image, she said: “I think that it is our campaign pictures – when we first launched we really wanted to include different ethnicities and different sizes on our shoot.”

“I think people were really shocked, which is exactly what we wanted because we just wanted normal people in our campaign.”

Describing the shoot, she explained: “We wanted all different shapes, we wanted people with wobbly bits, all the people with stretch marks, you know, real women and that’s what we did and that just had such an amazing response.”
