MONSTA X has cancelled the first two stops on their 2020 world tour as the coronavirus pandemic continues.

With people self-isolating in their homes and mass gatherings being cancelled, the K-pop group have followed suit and axed their shows in Seoul, South Korea next month.

In a statement posted on social media, their agency Starship Entertainment announced: ‘We regret to announce that the 2020 MONSTA X WORLD TOUR IN SEOUL originally scheduled to be held on May 9, 10 at KSPO Dome has been cancelled due to the current global coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

‘At this time, it is impossible to predict the scale of the outbreak during the dates of the concert in May. In order to prevent further damage and to protect the health of fans, artists and staff members, we ask for your understanding that we have decided to cancel our concert in Seoul.’

It went on: ‘We sincerely apologise for bringing the cancellation notice to the fans who have been waiting for MONSTA X’s concert.

‘We plan to secure a new schedule for the concert in Seoul by keeping an eye on the situation so that the concert can be held again after the situation is stabilised.’

MONSTA X are also set to tour the US this summer but the North American leg is currently up in the air.

The world tour follows the release of their Korean album Follow: Find You and their English-language album All About Luv.

MONSTA X have been promoting as six members – Shownu, Minhyuk, Kihyun, Hyungwon, Joohoney and IM – since singer Wonho quit in 2019 amid drug allegations. However he has since been cleared of all charges.

Joohoney recently returned to the group after taking some time off due to anxiety symptoms.
