Martin explained that easyJet had released their flights between March 29 and August 20, with large bargains to be found if booked quickly.

He also added that the price “shoots up” as they have a “demand-pricing model” meaning they increase the more they are booked.

Despite many Brits waking up early to try and get cheap flights, disgruntled travellers found they were not quick enough, with flight fares jumping already.

One man wrote on Twitter: “Well that escalated quickly! @easyJet flights from Bristol to Split next summer went up by nearly £900 between 6am & 8am this morning.”

He added: “9:45am update: nearly £2000 now.”

Another person said: “@easyJet Crikie, some of these summer 2020 fares are astronomical.. £400 for a Bristol to Rhodes return excluding checked luggage? Seems pricey considering I’m booking nearly a year in advance #easyjet.”

Some had trouble buying the flights, only to find them going up in price.

Emma Smith said her flights “jumped by £300” when trying to book them.

Thankfully, some bargains can still be found.

For example, flights from London Gatwick to Barcelona in June can be found for £42.99 each way.

Flights to Nice are also a bargain, costing £32.99 when travelling in March.

Other social media users said they were quick enough to get a bargain.

Peter Oakly said he was able to get Manchester to Bilbao flights for £116 return after getting up at 6am, and have already doubled in price since.

Another added: “Luton to Rome for potential England 1/4 final in euros next year £84, already increased to £128.”

An easyJet spokesperson explained to Sun Online Travel: “Our pricing is demand-led, our fares start low and rise as more seats are booked on a flight.

“Flights for summer 2020 went on sale this morning and have proved very popular. Ticket prices around these dates are led by a strong demand for flights around this time, we do not artificially increase prices.

“We offer value for money fares all year round with 50% of our passengers paying on average less than £50.”

Previous research found that the cheapest day of the year to fly is on April 27, according to Skyscanner.

It is also best to book flights roughly 21 days before travelling, as well as on a Sunday to save money.
