Mohamed Salah has grown frustrated by criticism of his performances this season and took aim at critics for treating his rivals for the Premier League Golden Boot differently.

The Egypt international has scored 17 league goals this season but is some way short of his 32-goal haul of last campaign.

Salah has come in for some criticism for failing to hit those dizzy heights, while Sergio Aguero – who has scored only two goals more than the 26-year-old – has been widely praised for his efforts.

The Liverpool forward was denied another goal to add to his tally on Sunday, with his dramatic late effort being credited as an own goal for Toby Alderweireld following a horrendous mistake from Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris in a 2-1 win.

But while Salah doesn’t care about missing out on another strike, he is frustrated by how his Golden Boot rivals are getting a comparatively easy ride.

‘I don’t care so much (if the goal is mine of not). As long as we get the three points that is the main thing,’ he told Sky Sports. ‘A goal is not very important, if they give it to me or not I don’t care.

‘I haven’t scored for a couple of games, yes, but there are some players who have the same amount of goals as me but they are saying they are having the best season of their lives.

‘There are three or four players that no one is talking about or just saying they are having a good season while I am the only one who is having a bad season.

‘Aguero has two goals over me and they say it is one of the best seasons so far.

‘I don’t care. I just want to win the Premier League.’
