Mohamed Salah and Jordan Henderson send messages to Virgil van Dijk after injury

Several Liverpool stars including the likes of Mohamed Salah and Jordan Henderson have sent messages of encouragement to Virgil van Dijk after he was confirmed to have suffered a serious injury.

Commanding centre-back Van Dijk is expected to be out for much of the season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury following a rash challenge from Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford during the Merseyside Derby.

The Dutchman is expected to undergo knee surgery and will be out for many months.

Now, his team-mates have offered him their support in his road to recovery by sending him messages of encouragement.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson said: “The comeback is always stronger than the set back.

“Recover well my brother, we’ll be waiting for you”.

“It’s that old cliche: ‘Let’s win it for Virgil and make sure we have something to celebrate at the end of the season.’

“But when you are in the changing room, you look across and you haven’t got Virgil van Dijk – this big colossus of a player. Defensively when things are going well and you turn back and see Van Dijk, it’s okay. Now you turn back and he’s not there.

“It’s not being disrespectful to the players that are in there but he is their number one centre-back – someone who has performed to such a high level since he has come into the football club.”
