Sofia Vergara has been confirmed as the new judge on America’s Got Talent, joining Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, and Howie Mandel.
The 47-year-old broke the news just days after wrapping up on Modern Family, announcing she’ll be trying her luck judging thousands of variety acts when AGT returns later this year.
‘I’m so happy to join my new family on AGT,’ the Colombian-born actress enthused on Instagram.
‘This is a new and exciting next chapter for me and I’m extremely proud to be the first Latin judge on the show.
‘I can’t wait to watch all the talent and have fun with all you guys.’
No one is more excited than supermodel Heidi – who returned to the panel after a brief break for the latest series of Champions – calling the news ‘the icing on an already delicious cake’.
AGT just crowned its second winner of America’s Got Talent: The Champions in V.Ubeatable, an acrobatic dance troupe from Mumbai.
Their win came as the reality series has been hit with accusations of racism after Gabrielle Union was dropped from the panel after just one season, with the star claiming she was told her hair and wardrobe were ‘too black’.
‘I don’t take notes on anti-blackness,’ she later wrote on social media.
‘Unapologetically me. Be comfortable and confident with your whole a*s self. It might give others the fluuuxxx but never stop being you.
‘You can shine on your own terms. And if you got something to say I don’t take notes rooted in anti-blackness. I love me as I am.’
The Bring It On actress has gone on to make several complaints against ‘the culture’ on America’s Got Talent which NBC have said they’re investigating.
America’s Got Talent returns to NBC later this year and will follow on Netflix UK.
