Modern Family star Jesse Tyler and his husband Justin Mikita are having a baby.

Jesse, who is best known for playing Mitchell Pritchett on the sitcom, revealed his exciting news while appearing on The Late Late Show with James Corden.

And while he had wanted it to be kept a secret, blurting it out on television probably wasn’t the best way to keep it under the lid.

James had been talking about turning 40 with Charlie Hunnam, when Jesse made the surprise announcement.

He gave his take on hitting the milestone age and said: ‘You know what it is, it’s when you finally become an adult and think, “I need to start getting serious about things.”‘

The conversation prompted him to then divulge his baby news (and shock us all with excitement at the same time), as he continued: ‘This is something that I actually haven’t mentioned, if we could just keep it between the three of us, and you all, but I’m actually expecting a baby in July with my husband.’

James’ open-mouthed reaction to Jesse’s new was just too pure.

‘But, shh, don’t tell anyone,’ Jesse joked. ‘Let’s keep it between us.’

Sure, and the whole of the US and, well, the world now, thanks to the internet.

When asked whether he was having a boy or a girl, Jesse replied with ‘a human’ and gushed: ‘I’m very excited. I’m 44 now and I’m like, “Let’s get this show going,” it’s starting to tick tock.’

While James told him that he and Justin are ‘going to make the best parents’, Jesse joked that Charlie may have to start thinking about kids now he’s hitting the big 4-0.

‘No pressure, in the next four years, you should probably start to think about that,’ he teased.

Jesse and lawyer Justin have been married since 2013. They announced their engagement in 2012, after nearly two years of dating each other.

Fans will know Jesse from Modern Family, which has now confirmed its finale date that will see the show end after an impressive 11 seasons.

The rest of the season will wrap up the show’s story for good, with David Beckham and Courteney Cox dropping in as guests, before coming to a close on 8 April.

Nope, we’re so not ready for goodbyes yet either.
