Moby is to bare his soul for a brutal documentary — in which he confesses to missing his mum’s funeral because he was ‘in bed, drunk, passed out’.
The Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad hitmaker discusses the dark side of fame in the film but it won’t include his spat with Oscar winner Natalie Portman, who dubbed him a ‘creepy old man’.
Explaining why he is making Moby Doc, the 55-year-old said he admires ‘other public figures who’ve attempted to be honest’.
Moby — whose dad died in a drink-driving accident when he was two — added that it’s not only honesty from well-known people that he appreciates but also from fellow alcoholics he meets at AA meetings.
‘People who are willing to openly discuss the things that so many people are either ashamed of, or work so hard to hide,’ he explained.
The film is set to be explosive after he previously confessed to 8am benders that involved ‘bags of drugs… 15 drinks… having sex with a complete stranger’.
Now Moby is happy to publicly own his flaws. But he says his run-in with Natalie is a sideshow and will not feature. He was driven to apologise after claiming in his 2019 memoir that he had dated the 39-year-old Black Swan star.
Natalie slapped down his recollections, describing their interaction as ‘a much older man being creepy with me’.
She added: ‘He said I was 20; I definitely wasn’t. I had just turned 18.’
Explaining why that chapter hit the cutting-room floor, Moby said: ‘It got a lot of attention, but it was, just in terms of page count, an incredibly minor… banal part of the book.’
He is dropping the doc on May 28, along with new album Reprise.

Performing on tonight’s BBC Radio 6 Music Festival — with highlights of the virtual event on BBC Four — Michael, 33, said: ‘The first gig was in Oslo. I walked in from our Vauxhall Zafira car, acoustic guitars on our backs, and she’s singing Rolling In The Deep. You can hear it coming through the walls and you’re like, “I’ve got to go on!” Barely knew how to soundcheck.
‘It was scary, but amazing because I’d watch the whole set every night and I learnt that she would sort of go to her own place.
‘She really sang from her heart. And I thought, “OK, you can be shy and still sound good.”’

Beabadoobee sowed the seeds of her latest album down on the farm with The 1975’s Matt Healy.
The death bed star has served up a first taster of their lockdown efforts with new track Last Day On Earth.
‘It’s about all the things I would have done had I known we were going into a lockdown and the world was going to change the way it has,’ said the 20-year-old.
Having worked on the EP out in the countryside with frontman Matt and his bandmate George Daniel, she added: ‘My first time writing and recording on a farm.’

Sarah Harding is relaunching her solo career during her battle with breast cancer.
The Girls Aloud star, who says she doesn’t expect to see another Christmas, has dropped her first song in six years after stumbling across it on her laptop.
Sarah, who revealed she recorded Wear It Like A Crown ten years ago, said she felt ‘sad that no one ever got to hear it’.
After her team suggested she release it now, Sarah, 39, wrote on Instagram: ‘I thought, “Why the hell not?”’
She said profits from the track will go to the Christie NHS Foundation.
New music tease — just as fans feared she’d Rih-tired
Rihanna’s five-year tease continues after she announced she will finally drop some new music ‘soon’… but only the one song.
RiRi mentioned her last album, 2016’s Anti, when she shared a Women’s History Month video honouring her career on her Instagram.
