Moaning mum says she ‘dreads’ Mother’s Day because she can’t do the washing, cleaning and cooking – but others think she’s a killjoy

IT’S the one day of the year the nation’s mums are told to kick back and relax while their children pamper them for a change.

But now one mum has revealed she secretly HATES Mother’s Day because she’s not allowed to do the “washing, ironing, cleaning or cooking”.

Posting on the parenting forum NetMums, the anonymous mother asked if she is an “unreasonable cow” for disliking Mother’s Day.

Revealing how her mother-in-law spends the day with “sour face” on because she “doesn’t like a fuss”, the user also says she finds it “stressful” not being allowed to do her day-to-day housework.

Although “being told that you can’t do the stuff you do 364 days a year” may sound great at first, the mum added: “I end up with a mess to sort on the Monday when everyone else is back at work/school.”

And while the problem would be easily sorted by going out to celebrate, the mum added: “We went out for a meal last year and the pub was packed with stressed out staff who threw our meals at us basically.”

She concluded: “I would happily cancel and not have the stress! Does anyone actually enjoy it??”

But while some mums admitted that “it’s just another day” for them, other parents were quick to defend the annual celebration.

One replied: “I love it! Nothing better than the kids leaping on the bed at the crack of dawn with a handmade card and picture with big smiles on their faces and massive hugs for me.”

Another added: “I think it’s sweet, I reciprocate on Father’s Day. I don’t think it does any harm to remind the kids to take stock and appreciate what we do – though of course that’s something to be instilled outside of the day too!”

However, another user recommended that the woman set some ground rules for her family to make the most of her special day.

Revealing how her Mother’s Day is merely “business as normal” in her house, the mum wrote: “I laid down some rules. No meals out.

“My kids make me cards and hubby always gets me flowers.

“Maybe state your preferences to your partner before explaining your reasons? You might be surprised by the response…”
