My Kitchen Rules judge Manu Feildel has expressed shock at the staggering amount of money raised to rebuild the the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris.

The French chef took to Instagram after €750 million (approximately AUD$1.2 billion) was raised in 24 hours, describing the flood of donations as ‘incredibly disturbing.’ 

The 45-year-old shared a viral meme of the Parisian landmark next to a photo of starving children in Africa, clearly implying that the money could be better spent on humanitarian issues.

‘This is incredibly disturbing!!!’ he captioned the image. ‘The world is f***ed!!!’ 

Manu’s statement was met with hundreds of supportive comments, with most agreeing that the money could be better spent elsewhere.

‘I can’t believe they spend so much money on a structure rather then spend so much to help the poor,’ wrote one.

Another wrote: ‘The fact that this came from a French man who is not blinded by the media makes us realise that there is hope in this world. Legend!’ 

However, Manu also received some criticism for the post, with some people telling the celebrity chef to donate his own money to the causes he cares about.

‘I want to ask if the profits from your restaurant and MKR are all going to the starving children?’ asked one.

Another commented: ‘How much of your high earnings do you donate to the starving children in Africa?’ 

On Monday evening, the Notre-Dame de Paris went up in flames, leaving France and the international community distraught.

A fire that began shortly before 6:50pm local time burst through the roof of the centuries-old cathedral and engulfed the spire, which collapsed, quickly followed by the entire roof.
