The chef said the network’s newly appointed CEO, James Warburton, ‘isn’t interested in going down that path. He’s more interested in family values and family-friendly viewing.’

The Dublin-born star said the show was in need of a shake-up and that he was excited for the new format.

Years on, and with the new season filmed, Colin said: ‘I think it’s actually the best season we have done.’

The revamped MRK, dubbed ‘The Rivals’, is hosted by Pete Evans, and will see chefs Manu Feildel and Colin Fassnidge go head-to-head in team-based challenges.

Manu will lead a team made up of contestants from past seasons – including ‘villains’ Romel Kouyan, from season 10, and Sophia Pou, from season four.

Meanwhile Colin Fassnidge will lead the group of brand new aspiring cooks who are set to give their rivals a run for their money.

Despite the hype for the newly-revamped MKR, the series will face some stiff competition when MAFS returns to Channel Nine on February 3rd.

The explosive ‘social experiment’ is already causing controversy, with recent reports that one groom will get caught cleaning a toilet with his wife’s toothbrush.

MKR: The Rivals will premiere on Sunday, February 2 at 7pm on Channel 7
