Mission: Impossible 7 filming is trucking on in UK instead of Italy

Filming for Mission: Impossible 7 will take place in the UK after being halted in Italy.

Production for the action flick’s latest installment previously came to a standstill following the increased coronavirus outbreak in the country.

And now, Tom Cruise and the rest of the team have been forced to fly over to the UK to continue filming at Longcross Studios in Surrey.

To make things that little bit more believable, the new set will feature a replica version of Rome’s Trinita dei Monti church.

‘The delays have already had massive implications – not just for this film, but for the whole industry,’ an insider told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column.

‘There are literally hundreds of crew and some of the world’s biggest stars including Tom Cruise on standby waiting to get started, and it’s simply infeasible to delay it indefinitely.

‘But it goes without saying nobody is going to risk sending a large crew back to Italy at the moment or for the foreseeable, so they’ve had to come up with a contingency to keep things moving.’

Last month, a spokesperson for Paramount confirmed the news, saying: ‘Out of an abundance of caution for the safety and well-being of our cast and crew, and efforts of the local Venetian government to halt public gatherings in response to the threat of coronavirus, we are altering the production plan for our three week shoot in Venice, the scheduled first leg of an extensive production for Mission: Impossible 7.

‘During this hiatus we want to be mindful of the concerns of the crew and are allowing them to return home until production starts.

‘We will continue to monitor this situation, and work alongside health and government officials as it evolves.’

Filming for the highly anticipated movie – which is set to star Rebecca Ferguson, Nicholas Hoult, and Hayley Atwell – kicked off in Italy last month.

However, the country has since been put on lockdown with strict emergency measures in place to prevent the deadly bug’s spread, with a source revealing to Metro.co.uk that Tom ‘wasn’t in’ the city at the time of the halt.

It’s not yet known whether the change to filming will affect its 23 July 2021 release date.

The number of people infected by coronavirus in Italy has risen by around 20% in one day to 21,157.

Locals who refuse to self-isolate knowing they are infected with Covid-19 could face legal action, with bars, restaurants and schools all closing in recent weeks.

Italy is the worst hit country in Europe and in the world outside of China.
