A recluse who hadn’t been seen since April was completely eaten by his pack of dogs, police have said.

Freddie Mack, 57, was reported missing by his family in May after they did not hear from him.

When police visited Freddie’s home to check up on him, they were blocked from entering the property by his 18 mixed-breed dogs.

When they returned a few days later, they discovered animal faeces containing bits of hair, clothing and bone.

DNA testing has now determined that pieces of bone recovered from the dogs’ faeces belonged to Freddie, from Texas.

It is unclear whether his dogs killed their owner or ate him after he died from a pre-existing medical condition.

Deputy Sheriff Aaron Pitts said the animals apparently devoured all of Mack’s body, clothing and hair, leaving nothing larger than 2- to 5-inch bone fragments.

‘Never have we ever, or anyone we’ve spoken to, heard of an entire human being consumed,’ he said.

‘The bones were completely broken up and eaten.’

Pitts added that the dogs were ‘well fed and cared for ‘ and the only time police had dealt with Freddie was in 2017, when he called from hospital to ask if someone could check on his dogs.

‘This man loved his animals,’ he added.

Two of the dogs have since been killed by their mates, 13 were put down because of their ‘aggressive nature’ and three have been put up for adoption.
