A real-world Harry Potter game similar to the Pokémon Go sensation of a few years ago has been released today.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is now available on Android and iOS devices worldwide.
The augmented reality game is made by Niantic and will see players use their wand and prepare potions to solve the mystery of The Calamity.
Combining elements from the Harry Potter series and Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, The Calamity has meant that items from the wizarding world are turning up in the muggle universe causing chaos.

Adventurers are expected to serve in the Statute of Secrecy Task Force to track down missing artefacts, creatures, people and memories before returning them to their proper place.
These items, dubbed Foundables, are more likely to appear in places such as parks and libraries – meaning you’re bound to run into other players.
As well as this, you can stop off at inns to buy food and drink and even duel against Death Eaters and other creatures alongside fellow gamers at fortresses.
Players can also visit locations in the Harry Potter universe, such as Gringotts bank or Ollivander’s Wand Shop by finding port keys.
‘Some skills are focused on you as an individual, for example improving the way that you explore the map,’ says Alex Moffit, a producer at developer Niantic, The Guardian reports.

‘But a lot of the skills that I think are most interesting involve collaboration … I can actually cast abilities on my fellow witches and wizards, help heal them, give them a boost.’
Niantic first announced they were developing the game back in 2017 following the whirlwind success of Pokemon Go.
They launched a beta version of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite in New Zealand in April before expanding to Australia a couple of weeks later.
Marigold, one of the developers of the game, revealed in a blog post: ‘It’s what everyone imagines when you read the Harry Potter books. You imagine the characters and world coming to life around you.
‘Harry Potter: Wizards Unite takes this a step further and brings it to life in your world so that you can actually see all the magical characters and fantastic creatures all around you. It’s almost like you can reach out and touch them.’
