Mirror Book Club members praise Graham Norton's A Keeper as a 'beautiful read'

The latest Mirror Book Club choice was Graham Norton’s novel A Keeper, and this poignant, gripping story of corrosive family secrets went down a storm with you all.

“A beautiful read,” said Margaret Harbert.

“I loved it!” said Susan Kenny, Allison Royal and Maura Craven (Maura also wishes Graham would write more books).

“I really enjoyed this,” agreed Alison Da Silva Barros. “And his previous one, Holding.” Mary Delahunty-Sheehan “loved both his books, both very good reads”.

“I was expecting ‘chick lit’ nonsense that was over-hyped due to Graham Norton’s name,” said Laura Hamilton. “I was VERY wrong. I loved it. Well written, a few plot twists and very dark in some respects.”

And Anne Cater listened to the audio book “which is narrated by Graham himself and I thought that added so much more to the story. He has such a fabulous way with words”.

No one had a bad word to say about A Keeper.

(Vintage, £8.99).

In this romping road movie of a book, Anna’s rich lawyer husband has left her for her best friend Estelle.

To distract herself from her misery, Anna investigates the death of an old friend, blown up on his yacht – a mystery linked to Anna’s murky past.

Conviction by Denise Mina and Saving Missy by Beth Morrey

Her investigations take her around Europe, saddled, for various reasons, with Estelle’s husband Fin, an irritating washed-up rock star.

The plot is a tissue of unlikely coincidences but, as with Killing Eve or Hitchcock’s movies, there is a mischievous sense of fun alongside edge-of-your-seat thrills.

We’d love you to give Conviction a read and let the Mirror Book Club know whether you enjoy it. We’ll print your feedback on these pages on March 20.

You can also share your thoughts with the Mirror Book Club on Facebook or by post.

Missy, 79, is prickly, stubborn and desperately lonely.

She lives alone, missing the days when her children were small and her historian husband was writing in his study. Then she meets two very different women who change her life.

The Guest List, by Lucy Foley

HarperCollins, £12.99

On a remote island off the west of Ireland, 13 guests gather for the society wedding of the year as Will Slater, a Bear Grylls-style TV adventurer, and star journalist Jules Keegan get hitched.

But as an Atlantic storm unleashes its fury, long-buried secrets and grudges come to the fore as tempers fray. Then one of the guests is found dead, leaving the rest trapped with a killer.

This thriller is clever, absorbing and great fun.
