Microsoft has continued to remove Marcus ‘Notch’ Persson from the history of Minecraft, citing his controversial ‘comments and opinions’.

Minecraft is 10 years old on 17 May, and to celebrate Microsoft is planning a series of celebrations, including a special event in Stockholm on its birthday. But its creator is not invited.

Marcus Persson sold Minecraft, and developer Mojang, to Microsoft for $2.5 billion back in 2014, and since then has become most famous for making offensive remarks about race, gender, and sexuality on Twitter.

He quickly became an embarrassment to Microsoft and earlier in the year they removed his name from everything except the credits, and now it seems he won’t be mentioned during the anniversary either.

According to Variety, Microsoft will not be inviting him because, ‘His comments and opinions do not reflect those of Microsoft or Mojang and are not representative of Minecraft’.

Peterson has not commented on Microsoft’s attempts to distance themselves from him, but then he’s shown no real interest in Minecraft since he sold up.

Microsoft also promise that the anniversary event will celebrate the, ‘past, present and exciting future of the decade-old franchise’ although it’s still believed a sequel is unlikely at this point.

Instead, there will probably be more on dungeon crawler spin-off Minecraft: Dungeons, which is also expected to be at E3 in June.
