Miley Cyrus has opened up on her split from Liam Hemsworth, saying it ‘f***ing sucked’ that she was turned into a villain.
The Can’t Be Tamed singer confirmed last August that she and Liam had separated after nine months of marriage and a decade-long on-off relationship.
The shocking break-up made headlines, and was complicated by the fact that hours after the split statement was released, Miley was pictured kissing Kaitlynn Carter on holiday.
Addressing the situation on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, the 27-year-old said: ‘What really sucked about it wasn’t the fact that me and someone that I loved realised that we don’t love each other the way that we used to anymore.
‘That’s okay, I can accept that. I can’t accept the villainising and just all those stories.’
Miley then suggested that her brief romance with Kaitlynn wasn’t an overnight thing, nor was her split from Liam, 30.
The Midnight Sky singer said: ‘It’s just amazing to me that the public kind of thinks that there is no gap in time that they didn’t see that could possibly be what led to this.
‘Like, it’s not, “One day you were happy on the carpet, and the next you’re making out with your friend in Italy”, what the f***?
‘Well, there was a lot of time between that you didn’t see.’
Miley and Kaitlynn’s romance ended after a few weeks, and the artist formerly known as Hannah Montana went on to date Cody Simpson.
However, she confirmed she had split from the Aussie singer last month, and Miley is now properly single for the first time in five years.
She told Rogan: ‘I’ve had a few months here and there where I’ve been single but not for a long period of time.’
But that doesn’t mean Miley isn’t looking for love, as she said she is looking for an older man.
The popstar said: ‘Men in my life have told me that I’m cold, or I’m a cold f***ing b**** because I leave when things are done.
‘That’s why I’m looking for an older man. I don’t need a man or a woman that’s gonna take care of me. I can take care of me because I’ve got money, I’ve got all the things that I need to take care of myself. I need them to be able to take care of them.
‘I guess I really don’t need to be in a relationship at all. But it does sound nice.’
Miley is back on the promo circuit after releasing Midnight Sky, in preparation for her first full-length album since 2017’s Younger Now.
As well as many interviews – including one where she revealed she lost her virginity to Liam – the star took Midnight Sky to the stage as she performed at the MTV Video Music Awards over the weekend.
