Up-and-coming Bolognese designer Marco Rambaldi kicked off day three of Milan Fashion Week today with a cool and casual collection.
The 29-year-old chose to have a traditional runway show with a socially distanced audience.
The collection featured ultra-wearable WFH wardrobe workhorses of stretchy ruched skirts and knit dresses, cycling shorts and silky shirts.
It was inspired by Genoese feminist writer and translator Fernanda Pivano and prints featured images of famous works she had translated. The clothes were constructed entirely from natural fibres, and patchwork knitwear and crochet pieces were made using materials from the brand’s archive.
Yesterday’s schedule highlight was undoubtedly Raf Simons’s debut collection for Prada.
Co-created with Miuccia Prada and unveiled via a pre-recorded runway sequence, models in pared-back ensembles strode through chandeliers of monitors and cameras. Featuring Miuccia’s uniform of pleated midi skirts, alongside classically Raf shell tops, left, these were timeless pieces for difficult times.
Giorgio Armani’s SS21 collection for Emporio Armani also centred on practicality and ease of movement. The first designer to cancel attendance for a fashion show when the pandemic hit in February, Armani embraced digital formats, showing the collection in a short film.
