Mike Bushell is currently enjoying his time on Strictly Come Dancing 2019 with partner Katya Jones, 30, which comes just four months after his wedding to marketing executive Emily, 39. The BBC Breakfast star’s wife has now addressed whether the pair will have a baby together, both having children from previous relationships. The 53-year-old shares three daughters; Lucy, 22, Izzy, 20, and 16-year-old Sophie, with his first wife. Emily, who already has a 10-year-old son, has revealed she always “thought” she’d have more in a candid interview with OK! Magazine.
When asked if they had spoken about extending their family, Emily confirmed they had: “We have, and we’re not going to.
“I thought I’d have more than one child, but life has moved on so much and were happy.”
She continued: “To go back to the start again would be madness. We’re talking about whether to get a dog or not.”
Mike split from his first wife Kim in 2009 after having been married for 12 years, long before his whirlwind romance with Emily.
The latter was given away by her son and father at their nuptials, at a “very small family occasion”.
They went on to discuss how they knew so quickly they’d met the one – the pair started dating just one year before their big day.
“I just knew I wanted to commit to Emily,” Mike stated, as she said: “We read each other’s minds and there’s a complete ease between us.
“In the past I’ve had a checklist and it’s never got me to where I wanted to be. When I met Mike I thought, gosh you’re quite short, but he’s just so kind and warm.”
Emily then gushed: “He’s everything I never thought I’d be with, but he’s the most perfect person and we laugh every day.”
And it doesn’t seem like the pair are at all worried about the so-called Strictly “curse”, which refers to relationships that have started and ended surrounding the BBC show.
Mike is dancing with newly-single Katya, who is estranged from her husband and co-star Neil Jones, after she was pictured kissing her partner Seann Walsh last year.
“I’ve just got married, and I’m the oldest male contestant this year so we just laughed about it,” he confirmed.
“When I was partnered with with Katya there were a few memes suggesting Emily would be gutted, but it’s not an issue.”
Emily added: “I was just find them funny! It doesn’t even cross my mine because we’re happy. I met Katya and she’s totally professional. Plus, she lives locally so that means I’m going to see them both lots.”
Mike also said: “Katya is the best, and also Neil is so supportive, and they obviously still love each other as great friends. Katya was chuffed that he finally got a partner.”
