Mick Jagger says he is ‘on the mend’ as he thanks fans and hospital staff

Sir Mick Jagger has said that he is “on the mend” before thanking hospital staff for “doing a superb job” after reportedly undergoing heart surgery.

The Rolling Stones frontman returned to Twitter on Friday to update fans on his condition, days after the band were forced to cancel their North America tour dates owing to Jagger’s health

“Thank you everyone for all your messages of support, I’m feeling much better now and on the mend,” the 75-year-old wrote.

“Also a huge thank you to all the hospital staff for doing a superb job.”

Earlier in the week, it had been reported that Jagger was to undergo surgery in New York to place a stent.

A spokesperson for the British band in London declined to comment on the reports at the time.

On Saturday, Jagger said he was “devastated” to announce the band had postponed their planned gigs in North America “under doctors’ orders”.

The rocker said in a statement: ‘I’m so sorry to all our fans in America & Canada with tickets. I really hate letting you down like this.

“I’m devastated for having to postpone the tour but I will be working very hard to be back on stage as soon as I can.”

The band added: “Unfortunately today the Rolling Stones have had to announce the postponement of their upcoming US/Canada tour dates […]

“Mick has been advised by doctors that he cannot go on tour at this time, as he needs medical treatment.

“The doctors have advised Mick that he is expected to make a complete recovery so that he can get back on stage as soon as possible.”

The band had been due to kick off the US and Canada leg of their No Filter tour at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida on April 20, finishing at the Burl’s Creek Even Grounds in Ontario, Canada, on June 29. The statement advised that dates will be rescheduled in due course and tickets would be valid.
