Mick Jagger: Jumpin' Jack's back!

Sir Mick, who opened the concert with Street Fighting Man, declared, to huge cheers: “It’s great to be back!” Sir Mick had an emergency heart valve replacement in New York in April and despite his amazing fitness regime, some expressed fears his touring days with the band were over. But his big comeback on Friday night left guitarist Keith Richards, 75, beaming.

Richards said: “He went through it very easily. He’s in great shape – rocking.”

The tour ends on August 31 and a road crew member said: “You can bet the only one who’ll look fighting fit and fresh as a daisy at the end of it all will be Mick. I wouldn’t bet against him being the last Stone standing.”

Father-of-eight Sir Mick certainly gave fans satisfaction on Friday.

Madison Clarke tweeted: “His energy is incredible and he’s, like, ancient.”

Lou Peters said: “There isn’t a band in the world that can compare with the Stones when Mick is on fire.

“He’s rock’s Energizer Bunny!” Eurythmics co-founder Dave Stewart said: “He’s evidently a lot better. Mick and I use text a lot – and he’s a man of few words, like, ‘Doin’ all right’.”
