Michelle Heaton in self-isolation over coronavirus fears

Michelle Heaton has been in self-isolation for 12 days after a family friend tested positive for coronavirus.

The former Liberty X singer revealed to fans yesterday she’s been keeping herself and children AJ and Faith on lockdown as a precaution.

Appearing on this morning’s Lorraine show, the mum explained she’d chosen to take no chances because AJ has a weak immune system because of an earlier battle against Meningitis.

She said she had indirect contact with a person who had been diagnosed with Covid-19, through a pal who is with her family nearly every day, prompting her self-isolation.

The 40-year-old also revealed that though she has had a cough for a couple of days, and her young son AJ has “the sniffles”, she has no reason to suspect they have the virus.

Michelle said: “A friend came into contact with someone who has it.

“That person is always with us and though they haven’t showed any signs yet, we’re self-isolating in a precautionary move because AJ had meningitis.”

Michelle also revealed husband Hugh Hanley is away working, so is not in self-isolation with his family.

Michelle told her 226,000 Instagram followers yesterday about her decision to stay home.

In a long post, she wrote: “We do not have any symptoms… kids, me and Hugh have been told to go about our normal daily life, unless we show symptoms!”

She continued: “That’s the advice and what’s been explained to us from the authorities. However, for those at school with our children, we are keeping Faith and AJ, and myself on ‘house isolation’ after much deliberation.

“Just for a few days even though, again, we have NO symptoms [at the moment]! And have NOT been in contact with the confirmed. I know some of you will be like ‘omg she’s dramatic’ take it as you wish…we are just as worried as everyone.”

Michelle added: “To the countless friends and people in our area, who’ve asked or reached out to us over the last 48 hrs with concern after seeing the men in their white suits outside our house… We are all good! Thank you x.”

And the star took the time to give her followers some practical advice, writing: “Wash hands, stay clean. It’s not about us – the fit and healthy… its whom you may pass it onto who may not be able to fight it!!!!”

Five people have now died from coronavirus in the UK.

The number of confirmed cases in the UK yesterday jumped to 321 after 43 more people tested positive.

There are 280 cases in England, 23 in Scotland, 12 in Northern Ireland and six in Wales.
