Michael Venom Page: Jose Mourinho can be exactly what Tottenham are looking for

When Bellator told I was getting a new opponent for Saturday, it didn’t bother me. I feel I’m on such a high right now. My mentality is clearer and I’m more focused. I feel unstoppable.

Even with the name change, it was no problem. I’m not phased. Another opponent actually fell through before Giovanni Melillo stepped in. I’ve had a lot of personal stresses this year and I’ve been slowly working through those. But now, I feel I’ve broken a barrier down and I want to keep going. I think being in a better place will lead to an amazing performance for the London crowd.

I always have something special planned. I always fight the same way. I land a couple of single shots, I feel my opponent out until I get comfortable. Then I start looking for the crazy stuff. Annoyingly, my single sniper shots have put down a lot of my opponents.

I never really get the chance to go crazy in there. But once I know Melillo can’t touch me and if he can withstand the single shots, then you’ll see something special.

Douglas Lima being champion really excites me. I was at the fight in Connecticut and I messaged him straight away. I was so happy and honestly proud of him. It was a weird feeling because I really want that rematch, but it means so much to him and his family to be Bellator’s champion again. I can’t be angry with that and if I was jealous, that would say a lot more about me than him, I think. People wanted me to get in the cage, but I would never steal that moment from someone.

That’s not to say I’m not pestering Bellator to give me that fight. I’m like that kid in school sitting at the front of the class jumping up and down with their hand in the air at the moment. I want Lima to be my first fight in 2020, I think I’m the obvious first defence. I’d even love to do that fight in Brazil.

Lima has been saying he wants to bring Bellator to Brazil and I am 100 per cent in. I’ve got a massive fanbase in Brazil, but maybe that’s because they all think I’m Anderson Silva! That fight is all about the win and rectifying that loss. I know I can make the adjustments and I know I can beat him. I want that fight and I expect to get it.

Rory MacDonald

For Rory MacDonald, his fight with Lima felt like a weird one. Lima and Rory were very hesitant and they were both cautious of each other. Rory was avoiding the leg kicks by taking a step out, but that eliminated his takedowns. Lima wasn’t throwing as much kicks as he could have because he was afraid of getting taken down off a low leg. Neither were playing to their strengths and it made for a stalemate. But I do feel Lima was in control from start to finish. He was always slightly ahead and doing slightly more.

I still feel like Rory will retire. I thought that before the fight and I felt that was coming regardless of the result. Maybe he’s been sparked with a little more fuel because he lost. I don’t know if his heart is still in it. He didn’t look great against Lima. And yet it was still an even fight, that’s how amazing Rory is. He was still in that fight even though he didn’t look great. He needs to make a clear cut decision and go with it.

Jose Mourinho returns

I’ve got Tottenham friends who can’t stand the fact Jose Mourinho is their new manager. I get it because if he does what he does best at Tottenham then lots of fans will end up hating him. Tottenham play a specific way and Mourinho parks the bus on everybody. That’s what he’s good at and that’s why he has won 20 major trophies as a manager.

His teams have always played a specific way. He didn’t do great at Manchester United and it really turned sour at end. But he’s still Mourinho and Tottenham fans have been crying about not winning trophies. Mourinho might be the one to do that for them. They won’t be complaining if they win the Premier League under Mourinho. It could potentially be a disaster in waiting, but you take that risk with any manager. It’s like a first date, you’re never really sure how things will go. We don’t know if Mourinho can gel at Tottenham and if he’ll click with the players.

I think Patrice Evra is going to be at my fight, Andy Cole asked for tickets. I met Evra recently and I couldn’t believe how quickly we clicked and how funny he is. Wiley and Big Narstie are going to be in the crowd on Saturday night too. It’s so amazing to get support like that, especially from my fellow Brits. It means a lot.
