Michael Owen believes two Arsenal youngsters have the potential to emulate star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Aubameyang is arguably Mikel Arteta’s most important player at Arsenal, having scored 61 goals in 96 appearances for the Gunners since his move from Borussia Dortmund in 2018.

Arsenal are not short of attacking talent, however, with 18-year-old Gabriel Martinelli and 20-year-old Eddie Nketiah already showing signs that they have long and successful careers ahead of them.

Brazilian forward Martinelli has scored ten goals for Arsenal this term while Nketiah has contributed three in seven matches since returning from his loan spell at Leeds United.

Former Manchester United and Liverpool striker Owen told Premier League Productions: ‘I think Arsenal have got a nice little thing going under Mikel Arteta.

‘They’ve got a nice blend as well. They’re bringing a few young players through, Nketiah, Martinelli scoring goals as well.

‘You never know, one of those two lads up front could turn into proper players and be like him [Aubameyang], scoring 20-plus goals a season and they’re worth their weight in gold.

‘If you can unearth one of those from your academy, it’s a massive bonus.’

Arsenal, currently ninth in the Premier League, were due to face Brighton this weekend but the fixture was postponed after Arteta tested positive for coronavirus.

This morning, all professional football in England was suspended until at least April due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
