Michael Gove ‘has chance to show he’s ready to act on climate’

Environment Secretary Michael Gove today met with members of climate change protest group Extinction Rebellion.

A spokesman for the organisation said before the Whitehall meeting this morning that it was Mr Gove’s opportunity to show he is “ready to act” on climate change.

The group is calling on the government to introduce measures to immediately reduce net greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2025.

The demands come after protests in central London, which included stopping traffic at Oxford Circus, Marble Arch, Waterloo Bridge and the area around Parliament Square.

Last week the Environment Secretary met with Swedish schoolgirl Greta Thunberg after she travelled to Britain to say leaders were not doing to enough about a looming climate crisis.
