Michael Constantine, who is most famous for his role in My Big Fat Greek Wedding has died at the age of 94 his reps have confirmed

Michael Constantine has died at the age of 94, his reps have confirmed.

The actor, famed for his role as Gus in the hit My Big Fat Greek Wedding, died of natural causes on August 31.

His agent Julia Buchwald confirmed the star died at his home in Reading, Massachusetts.

While his long career had earned him Emmy Awards and other notable accolades, he is best known for his part in the indie comedy.

He starred in the smash hit as the fruit and Windex-obsessed father Gus Portokalos and also featured in a short-lived CBS series in 2003, My Big Fat Greek Life, and the 2016 film sequel, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2.

Before playing the popular dad, he had featured as the school headmaster on TV series Room 222 between 1969 to 1974, winning an Emmy for his performance in 1970.

Elsewhere on his long list of performances, he starred in TV shows such as The Untouchables, Kojak, and Airwolf.

During the 1960s the actor guested on Dr. Kildare, The Untouchables, The Twilight Zone, Perry Mason, Hogan’s Heroes, My Favorite Martian, The Dick Van Dyke Show, and many more.

Later on he went to guest on shows such as Remington Steele, Murder, She Wrote and Law & Order.

On the big screen, he featured on classic hits including The Last Mile in 1959 and Don’t Drink the Water in 1969.

Michael’s first marriage, to the actress Julianna McCarthy, ended in divorce, as did his second, to Kathleen Christopher.





Fans and famous faces took to social media to express their sadness at the news.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding co-star Nia Vardalos wrote on Twitter: “Michael Constantine, the dad to our cast-family, a gift to the written word, and always a friend.

“Acting with him came with a rush of love and fun. I will treasure this man who brought Gus to life. He gave us so much laughter and deserves a rest now. We love you Michael.”

She went on to share a picture of the star with her dad and captioned it: “Michael Constantine as “Gus” and my real dad Constantine “Gus” Vardalos, onset #MyBigFatGreekWedding2. May both dads Rest In Peace”

TV anchor Maria Stephanos penned: “I love this movie. I love this character and I loved Michael Constantine. He passed at the age of 94. I will spritz some windex in your honor Blue heart.”

Michael is survived by his two sisters, Patricia Gordon and Chris Dobbs.
