UNDER-fire TV star Michael Barrymore has broken his silence after police urged him to come clean over the death of dad Stuart Lubbock in his swimming pool.
The 67-year-old presenter has been inundated with support from fans after Essex Police revealed Barrymore and his seven pool party guests “could not be ruled out” from their rape and murder investigation.
The ex-Strike It Lucky host liked multiple Instagram comments with one describing Channel 4 – who will air a two-hour documentary about the death of the 31-year-old on Thursday night – as “parasites”.
Barrymore replied to one comment, saying: “Thank you very much x” to a female fan after she said: “You’re a legend”.
He liked a comment from Danny Bear, brother of reality star Stephen Bear, who said: “Parasites from Channel 4 still dragging up an incident many many years ago that Michael was NOT GUILTY of.
“I’m disgusted that a man who entertained many generations including myself and all the Bears continues to make two steps forward and one step back.
“I want him back on our screens and convinced there are millions who also feel the same.”
Barrymore also liked a comment from Lorraine Emery, which said: “Seems ridiculous and distressing to see that this has been brought up all over again. Stay strong Michael, we are all behind you.”
While a third comment read: “Britain should be ashamed what we have done to this man and still he carries on going.
“Michael keep doing you, you are wonderful don’t worry. Karma doesn’t miss a heartbeat for all those people who were wrong and accused you of so much wrong doing, they will be struck don’t you worry.”
The comments were posted to a montage of pictures of Michael at the NTAs, where he wished everyone luck ahead of last week’s event.
He singled out Dancing On Ice, the ITV show which he was set to appear on this year before breaking his wrist in rehearsals.
Stuart Lubbock’s dad Terry, 75, claimed the injury was faked to spare the embarrassment of being on the show while the documentary aired.
However, it appears the claims clearly haven’t fazed Michael as he was spotted taking a stroll with his boyfriend today.
The pair were seen in high spirits as they walked around Bovingdon Studios in Hertfordshire, where DOI is filmed.
No criminal charges have been brought since Stuart was found dead in the swimming pool of Barrymore’s Essex mansion in 2001.
Essex Police issued a £20,000 reward Monday for any information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
Det Chief Insp Stephen Jennings said: “I would say to Michael the same thing I would to everyone who was at that party. It is time now.
“You know more about this than you said. It’s time now for you to clear your name or put your hands up to what happened.”
Barrymore, his ex-lover Jonathan Kenney and dustman Justin Merritt were all previously arrested but released without charge.
