The New York Mets traded left-handed pitcher Jason Vargas to the Philadelphia Phillies for minor league catcher Austin Bossart on Monday.

The Phillies also will receive cash considerations in the deal.

Vargas, 36, is 6-5 with a 4.01 ERA in 19 appearances (18 starts) this season. He was an All-Star with the Kansas City Royals in 2017, when he won a career-high 18 games.

In his 14th major league season, Vargas has pitched in only four games at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, with a 6.23 ERA in 13 innings.

Bossart, 26, has spent all season with Double-A Reading, where he is hitting .195 with a .303 on-base percentage and seven home runs in 63 games.

New York has been the main story at the trade deadline so far. The Mets surprised many on Sunday by trading for Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Marcus Stroman — one of the top starting pitchers on the market.

Vargas might not be the only pitcher the Mets trade before Wednesday. Noah Syndergaard and Zack Wheeler are reportedly on the trading block as well.
