Metal Gear Solid movie concept art released alongside new David Hayter codec

Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts has tried to brighten up everyone’s lockdown with some previously unseen Metal Gear artwork.

The problem with reveals like this is that they get you even more excited about the prospect of a Metal Gear movie, only to remind yourself that it’s probably never going to happen.

Jordan Vogt-Roberts was attached to the project for six years and it seems all he had to show for it was some concept art and a partially animated teaser.

Well, there’s probably more, but so far this is all he’s shared on Twitter; as well as a newly recorded Metal Gear Solid 1 style codec conversation about why you should stay at home during the current pandemic.

The codec is actually pretty funny but there’s no real explanation for exactly what the artwork and animation are supposed to be.

The animation has a mixture of iconic imagery from at least the first three Metal Gear Solid games, so we imagine it was used to sell the general concept to execs and set the tone.

As good as it is, the artwork is curious too, as most of it doesn’t seem to be from a specific sequence from any of the games.

Whether that’s also not meant to be taken literally, or if it’s an indication of some major changes to the plot of the original, is unclear but it’s probably a bit of both.

The movie project isn’t officially dead, and had been milling around Hollywood long before Vogt-Roberts got involved, but if nothing else at least you got to see some nice art today.
