Mesut Ozil’s career has hit a wall under Unai Emery at Arsenal.
The German World Cup winner can’t get a game for love nor money and despite being the club’s best-paid player has represented the Gunners just twice all season.
According to Opta, Ozil has averaged just 0.08 assists per game under Emery.
This number is considerably better under former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, with Ozil averaging 0.35 assists a game.
And even better again under Jose Mourinho, his boss at Real Madrid.
Stats show that the German was averaging a brilliant 0.46 assists per game in this period from 2010 to 2013, playing in La Liga.
Emery is under pressure at Arsenal with results going against the north London club and growing frustration among the fans.
Mourinho, who has been out of a job since being sacked by Manchester United in 2018, is reportedly keen on taking the reins from Emery.
That said, the Gunners boss is under no immediate danger of being sacked after receiving assurances over his position by the board.
Josh and Stan Kroenke are confident the Spaniard can turn things around, with or without the ostracised Ozil in the starting XI.
Emery recently spoke out about Ozil ahead of Arsenal’s Carabao Cup clash with Liverpool on Wednesday, but refused to confirm whether he’d play.
“If he’s in the group he has a possibility to play,” said Emery.
“We had this morning a very good conversation, Mesut and I. I said to him my idea with him hasn’t changed. He knows what I want with him.
“It’s the same last year, the first day of pre-season training here and one conversation between me and him. It’s the same one month ago and in that way some circumstances didn’t help us to be in every moment consistent or available to play.
“The last weeks he was progressively training well, adding his spirit to help us. That conversation this morning is because I wanted to listen to him, how he’s thinking now to help us and be with us tomorrow.
“Then if we are in the same spirit and idea to play. It was a very good conversation.”
