Arsenal outcast Mesut Ozil wished his team-mates the best of luck after being left out of their matchday squad for their Europa League win against Vitoria.

The German has made just one league start so far this term and his only other appearance came in a Carabao Cup tie against Nottingham Forest.

The playmaker posted a cryptic social media post on Wednesday with the caption ‘You make me laugh….’ and he was seen having an altercation with Emery as training started on the eve of the match.

But he was in seemingly better spirits on Thursday as he took to social media to post a photo with Arsenal legend Robert Pires.

‘Trained with this AFC legend this morning,’ said Ozil.

‘Always a pelasure to see my bro.

‘Best of luck for the match now from both of us’.

The German’s best wishes eventually paid dividends for Arsenal on the pitch against Vitoria.

Former Tottenham youngster Marcus Edwards put the visitors ahead before Gabriel Martinelli equalised.

But the Portuguese club retook the lead through Bruno Duarte and Arsenal were unable to respond until Nicolas Pepe was introduced.

The Ivorian equalised with a free-kick ten minutes from time and then hit a stunning set piece in injury time to seal the victory.
