Mesut Ozil insists Arsenal can take a number of positives from their painful Carabao Cup defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.
Unai Emery’s side led the Premier League leaders 2-1 and 4-2 on Wednesday evening but succumbed to an impressive comeback from the hosts after the match finished 90 minutes.
Divock Origi’s 94th-minute scissor kick send the tie to penalties and Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher saved Dani Ceballos’ effort to clinch a 5-4 shootout win.
Ozil made only his third appearance of the season for Arsenal during the match and largely impressed, playing an influential role in two of Arsenal’s goals.
The German World Cup-winner was surprisingly subbed off by Emery in the 65th-minute and has taken to social media to reflect on an ‘incredible’ match.
‘Crazy and incredible match,’ Ozil posted on Instagram. ‘Losing on penalties is always tough, but definitely some positive things to take away from Anfield Road tonight.
‘Thanks for the away support! Focus on Wolverhampton now.’
Emery, meanwhile, insisted he was ‘proud’ of the performance from his young team after making 11 changes from the side that drew with Crystal Palace on Sunday.
‘A crazy match,’ Emery said. ‘I am very proud of their work, we had a high rhythm in the first 45 minutes.

‘At the end we were winning until the last action. Penalties are 50/50 and we lost.
‘We are sad but our work, we deserve to have more. There are lots of positives to take.’
Hector Bellerin, who captained Arsenal against Liverpool, added: ‘We’ve been through loads of up and downs since I’ve been here. We’re all together no matter what.’
