But Merrick said it was his stint on Channel Seven’s SAS Australia that kick-started his journey to being in the ‘best physical and mental state he’s been in his entire life.’

‘I knew that just the process of getting ready for SAS Australia would be enough to rebuild my confidence and I was right,’ he said.

‘I look at myself a year ago, and I was in the worst mental state I’ve ever been in. I look at myself a year later, and I’m in the best physical and mental state I’ve been in in my entire life.’

He added that being at the peak of his well-being has allowed him to ‘strengthen his comic ability’.

‘It’s been extraordinarily good for my mind and my body,’ he said.

Merrick’s physical transformation first came to light back in 2016 when he first graced the cover of Australian Men’s Health on Monday.

The funnyman revealed he dropped an incredible 12.5 kilograms after exercising six days a week and cutting out booze and fatty foods.

The photos marked the end of a three-month fitness regimen which proved that even the average Aussie bloke can transform his body and confidence.

At the time, Merrick told The Daily Edition that he’d dropped TWO pants sizes as a result of his new health-conscious lifestyle.

‘I feel really good, and pretty happy with the results,’ he said after revealing that running, weights, swimming, and yoga helped him lose weight.

Merrick weighed almost 100kg at the start of the transformation, but confirmed he was slimmed down to 84kg after keeping up his fitness routine after the challenge was over.
