Men’s pyjama and loungewear labels cool enough to wear on a Zoom call

We are living in strange, strange isolated times.

And while few of us will miss the commute, the temptation instead to use our newfound morning freedom for kip, and then slide from bed to makeshift WFH desk in the same PJs we slept in, is a peril all too real.

In fact, for loungewear lovers, the next three months provide the perfect opportunity to avoid ever really getting properly dressed. However opting for the right sort of loungewear is absolutely integral to success. While ‘real’ clothes of suits or jeans are no longer a requirement, it could well be time to trade up those tattered trakkies in favour of a deliciously debonair dressing gown or a cooler-than-cool kaftan.

Or, if you are going to stay in your PJs all day, at least make sure they’re so damn good the Deliveroo driver asks where they’re from.

Read on for eight of the coolest brands to know

P. Le Moult

A graduate of both Central Saint Martins and the École des Beaux-Arts, Praline Le Moult draws on her family history to create what she describes as ‘activewear in retro cuts’. Her grandfather was the French naturalist Eugène Le Moult, who was as famous for hunting butterflies as he was for his custom-made wardrobe. Praline recently inherited his expansive clothing collection, and is using the original cuts to create a range of unisex pyjamas and sleepwear in contemporary fabrics. The brand’s seen an increase of over 120 per cent in sales on Matches in a year and we can see why.

Hamilton & Hare

“We believe that underwear and loungewear should be an inspiring part of your wardrobe, not a compromise or an afterthought,” says London-based men’s underwear and loungewear label Hamilton & Hare. The reasonably priced designs are all made sustainably using small-scale producers in England and Europe and using eco-friendly, natural fabrics such as Lyocell; a yarn made from Eucalyptus wood pulp that has zero waste processes and feels softer than silk. Their flannel shirts, suede slippers, terry towelling sets and relaxed drawstring trousers come in an approachable colour palette of blues, greys and marls. Perfect for anyone who’d rather let their breakfast-making skills do the talking.

N. Peal

When it comes to serious – and seriously soft – cashmere, few do it quite like N. Peal. The first store opened in Burlington Arcade in 1936 and since then the brand has gone on to become synonymous with fine knitwear. The cashmere is sourced from sustainably run farms in Mongolia and with it the brand creates timeless pieces that, if looked after, can be passed on from generation to generation. Look no further if you feel like adding a little luxury to your WFH routine.

The Elder Statesman

Corona got in the way of your Coachella plans? Why not bring a little Cali sunshine to your at-home workstation with a far out tie-dye cashmere jumper from LA brand The Elder Statesman? Launched in 2007 with a series of custom rugs, the brand has since designed everything from kidswear to opticals, but has become known for creating the finest, softest knitwear with a relaxed Californian vibe. Taking mostly Italian-sourced textiles from the best weavers, Greg Chait’s brand infuses these with colourful prints and unique tie-dye effects using a small team of craftspeople to create the kind of jumpers that make you smile when you’re brushing your teeth in the morning. And we could all use a bit of that right now, right?
