A memorial service for slain rapper Nipsey Hussle will take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, the same venue as Michael Jackson’s tribute show.

The sports and concert venue has a 21,000 capacity and the service will take place on 11 April.

TMZ reports that tickets will be sold through a website for the service and ‘only ticket holders will gain admission’.

Sources claimed that Nipsey’s family and execs from Staples met on Wednesday to discuss plans, and LAPD officials ‘were also present in the meeting to help plan logistics and security for the event’.

Michael Jackson’s memorial was held there in 2009; 17,500 free tickets were given to fans worldwide through an online lottery that attracted over 1.2 million applicants in 24 hours.

Nipsey, 33, and two other men were shot outside his clothing store in Los Angeles on 31 March.

The three men were rushed to hospital but Nipsey tragically died.

The Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement at the time: ‘We have no suspect info at this time and will provide more details as they become available.’

Since his tragic passing, tributes have flooded in for the Grammy-nominated rapper and on Friday, LA gangs came together for a peaceful march to celebrate the artist’s life.

It is thought that members of various gangs including the Crips and the Bloods met up on Thursday to discuss putting down arms and coming together for the march.

Gang leaders from Crenshaw, Watts, Compton and Inglewood all met up to discuss the ceasefire – the first of its kind since 1992 – and then the different factions walked together on Friday, ending up outsider Nipsey’s Marathon clothing store where he was shot dead.

Community leader Big U spoke to TMZ about the ‘gang truce’ and he said a lot of people had called ‘and said they want to get together because Nipsey was the first real LA artist from LA – not Tupac who was from somewhere else in LA, and Biggie – Nipsey was the first LA artist to die the way he died – he wasn’t beefing with nobody’.
