Melania Trump wears diplomatic outfit to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day

Donald Trump and Melania Trump arrived in Portsmouth on the final day of their three-day state visit to show their respects at an event to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

The occasion, which was also attended by the Queen and Theresa May, along with other world leaders, saw the First Lady arrive by helicopter in a neutral vintage-inspired coat dress and hat.

The ivory coat was by New York-based brand The Row, which was founded by actresses Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, and was first seen on the First Lady at the International Women of Courage Awards in 2017. The ensemble was paired with nude pumps by French fashion house Dior.

Melania’s matching wide-brim fascinator was a Philip Treacy creation. The British milliner is renowned for creating hats for the British royals, including the Duchess of Cambridge, Duchess of Sussex and Princess Beatrice.

The mixture of British, French and American labels was a poignant diplomatic choice for the occasion.

Melania has favoured neutral tones for the three-day state visit, wearing a white Dolce & Gabbana design and matching hat to meet the Queen on Monday, a Dior evening gown to the state banquet and a Celine trench coat to visit Downing Street.
