Mel B pays tribute to late father Martin as she opens up on ‘unbearable’ grief

Mel B described her grief as “unbearable” as she paid tribute to her late father Martin on what would have been his 65th birthday.

The Spice Girls star (real name Melanie Brown) shared a throwback photo of her and her dad, who died of myeloma cancer in 2017, smiling on the red carpet.

In an emotional caption, the singer said that she was missing her parent “now more than ever” and shared her belief that he would be “proud” of how “happy and strong” she is today.

“Happy birthday dad I’m missing you more now than ever, I really really am in the most amount of pain, it is actually unbearable!!” she wrote. 

“But I do wish you could see me now happy and strong [I] am now thank god, I no [sic] you would be sooo proud of me and of Danielle, we have morphed into you now big time

“We don’t deal with people who hurt us in life and we stick together as a family thanks to you dad, I love you sooo much, I just wish I could of [sic] had one more day one more cuddle that’s all #imissyou.”

The singer, who has reunited with her Spice Girls bandmates for a string of reunion dates, broke down in tears as she recalled Martin’s death in an interview on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories, which aired over the weekend.

Melanie was visibly emotional as she recalled seeing her father for the last time, having been parted from him for the previous six years while living in the United States.

“When I saw him, he didn’t even look anything remotely like how I remember my dad looking like,” she told Morgan.

“But he sounded like my dad when he managed to whisper, ‘I love you.’”

The 43-year-old said that she felt “really bad” because she hadn’t seen her father “in so long” and said that her final conversation with him prompted her to leave estranged husband Stephen Belafonte.

“That gave me the strength, because I’d said it to my dad, so now I have to do it,” she added. “I just wish he was here.”

The Spice Girls reunion tour is set to continue with dates in Manchester, Coventry, Sunderland, Edinburgh, Bristol and London.
