Spice Girls star Mel B has been honoured with an MBE for her work with domestic violence charity Women’s Aid.

The singer was named in the New Year Honours list for services to charitable causes and vulnerable women.

Mel, 46, was widely praised earlier this year when she starred in a short film exploring domestic violence.

Directed by Fabio D’Andrea, the video saw her star as a woman who escapes an abusive relationship.

She has also spoken about abuse from a personal standpoint, alleging that her ex-husband Stephen Belafonte, who she split from in 2018, abused her.

Belafonte has repeatedly denied the allegations.

Mel is best known being one fifth of the Spice Girls alongside Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm and Geri Horner.

The legendary girl group formed in 1994, with most of them (minus Victoria) reuniting for a 2019 tour.

Mel has also said that the girls are planning another reunion tour for 2023.

She’s the second Spice Girl whose services have been celebrated through the British honours system.

Victoria was made an OBE by the Duke of Cambridge in April 2017 in recognition of her 17-year career as a fashion designer outside of the band.

Also featured in the New Year honours list are stars including Dame Vanessa Redgrave, comedian Adam Hills, and presenter and dancer Ashley Banjo.

Joanna Lumley has also been honoured with a Damehood, while Daniel Craig has been made a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George, the same honour given to his iconic character James Bond.
