Meghan has often spoken of her affection for her father, even crediting him for mentoring her on her path to music mega-stardom.
Gary and his wife Kelli run a jewelry story in Meghan’s hometown of Nantucket, Massachusetts, but the 70-year-old used to earn his living as a music teacher.

Gary is a skilled piano player and was featured on two tracks for Meghan’s Only 17 EP, which was released in 2011.
Two songs on the early record’s track list, Cupid and Tumble, were produced by the singer’s father.
Recently, Gary joined his daughter on stage during an episode of The Voice UK, where Meghan currently serves as a judge alongside series regulars will.i.am, Olly Murs, and Tom Jones.

Back in 2015, Trainor’s father spoke exclusively to the Daily Mail about his daughter’s success and the private heartache the singer endured that later inspired her breakout hit All About That Bass.
‘I don’t think she expected to start a cultural conversation around the world about women’s bodies and how people look. But some parts of the song are obviously about her.’
‘I consider Meghan to be normal size, but when she was younger she was self-conscious about her body. She wouldn’t go to pool parties as she didn’t want to be the only girl in a one piece swimsuit when all the others were in a bikini.’
Talented: The former music teacher considers his daughter to be ‘a very talented songwriter who will go from strength to strength’ as her career progresses; the pair were pictured together at the premiere of Mickey’s 90th Spectacular in 2018
He continued: ‘My wife Keli and I told her she had nothing to be worried about, but she was aware of her size. Most girls are very body conscious and Meghan was no different to others.’
Gary toted that Meghan, who is the former music teacher and wife Kelli’s middle child, ‘could hold her own’ and ‘wasn’t teased much about her size at school,’ due to the fact she ‘had her big brother’ Ryan by her side.
‘To us she was a normal size, but in society people are expected to look a certain way.’
Meghan released All About That Bass in 2014 and the song’s instant success catapulted her into the limelight.
It also created a public dialogue regarding Hollywood beauty standards and the pressure felt by women in – and out – of the industry to be ‘perfect.’
The singer would go on to take home the Grammy for Best New Artist, as well as earn nominations in the ceremony’s Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year categories for the song.
