Meghan Markle's Suits dad urges new mum to return to acting – but with Prince Harry in tow

Wendell Pierce appeared on This Morning today, just hours after his former Suits co-star Meghan Markle announced her son’s birth.

The Duchess of Sussex gave birth to her and husband Prince Harry‘s first son, following the Royal Wedding last year.

Wendell, 55, played Robert Zane in Suits, the father of Meghan’s character Rachel Zane, who she played until the end of season seven.

Speaking of working together, Wendell told Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield that the new mum was brilliant.

“The only regret I have is because of her royal duties, she probably won’t act again”

He said: “She was a very dedicated, professional, kind, loving, giving woman and actress. Very talented.”

The actor continued: “The only regret I have, and hopefully that changes, is because of her royal duties, she probably won’t act again.”

But he has a plan to coax the American national back into the industry – and bring her royal husband with her.

He said: “I’ve come up with an idea that, hopefully, she and the Prince will read A R Gurney’s Love Letters, since they’re the patrons of the arts now.

“It’s a good charity event and then you’d get to see how talented she is, so you heard it here first.”

Earlier in the chat, Wendell confessed he didn’t believe the rumours that Meghan was dating Prince Harry at first.

He said: “I have to admit I didn’t believe it. I heard the rumours, I thought they were dating like, ‘Yeah, OK, yeah, right.”

“I was recurring, so I’d go back and forth. I was like, ‘Yeah, maybe, I don’t know.’

“Then one day there was this very mysterious, stern British security guy on set, real MI5 type, and I said, ‘This is real.’ That’s when I knew that he was serious.”

Wendell spoke of the 37-year-old’s heightened fame since marrying the Prince, 34, saying she’s coping well.

He said: “I think she’s coping with it well. The one true north for her is the fact she loves the Prince.

“When all else is in doubt, that is the true north for her. I knew she was very much in love with him.”

He also revealed Meghan’s secret talent – calligraphy.

Wendell said: “I don’t know if everyone knows this. She is a great calligrapher. That would be a prized possession, if you ever got not only something from the Duchess, but with her calligraphy. She’s very good.”

This Morning continues weekdays at 10.30am on ITV.
