Meghan Markle had a VERY different way of travelling before Prince Harry

Meghan Markle used to travel a lot as an actress before she gave up her career to be with Prince Harry. The now-Duchess of Sussex used to share her travel tips with her fans when she went away. Her advice differs greatly to the travel rules she follows now she is a member of the royal family. In her pre-Harry days, Meghan could apparently be sometimes found wearing trainers on flights and drinking alcohol – but is this something she could do now?

Meghan Markle explained some of her travel tips during a photo shoot with Good Housekeeping in 2016.

These days Meghan is nearly always seen sporting a pair of expensive high heels.

Photos of the mother-to-be boarding and disembarking planes in recent years show off her tottering shoe choice.

However, in the photo shoot, Meghan completely advised against wearing heels on a flight.

“Definitely wear sneakers, don’t wear heels,” she said in the behind-the-scenes footage.

Nowadays Meghan is often spotted arriving at foreign destinations in glamorous skirts or dresses.

This is something she appeared to advise against several years ago.

The Suits star recommended wearing “really great comfy trousers” when travelling.

However, Meghan was still keen to look stylish and advised a “simple top” teamed with a “black blazer or something like that so you look refined.”

When Meghan travels on royal visits now she and Harry have to be on their best behaviour the minute they step off the plane – and have likely been briefed during the flight on what to expect.

But when she was still an actress, a flight was truly a time to kick back and relax.

Her number one piece of advice to pass the time while flying was to drink alcohol.

“The best way to kill time on a flight is to drink wine and watch movies,” Meghan told Good Housekeeping. She then added, while giggling, “It’s like a vacation in the sky.”

Meghan Markle also used to keep a (now-defunct) blog called The Tig where she shared her life and travel tips with her fans.

On it she explained that self-care is crucial when away as travelling can be a tiring business.

“The foremost issue is self-care. It’s easy to run yourself ragged, hopping from one locale to another, sometimes feeling homesick, and other times just feeling plain-old sick,” the mother-to-be wrote on the site.

“Yes, it can sometimes feel quite glamorous; but, jet-setting (for work or pleasure) comes with its own set of complications!”
