Meet the winner of our first competition from The Getaway

He’s won a stay at the Tabula Rasa Luxury Hotel, Sri Lanka

Dreaming of your next holiday? One lucky Metro reader doesn’t have to any longer.

Oliver Edmunds, a 25-year-old major incident manager from Barlow, North Yorkshire, has won an eight-night luxury getaway to Sri Lanka, including flights – courtesy of Metro and Secrets Of Ceylon.

‘The email telling me I’d won came on my first day back at work after Christmas and I thought, yeah, this is a dodgy email,’ says Oliver, who intends to go at the end of this year, Covid permitting.

‘Then I checked the “from” name and sent it to my friend, and she came over and screamed in my face. I was in a state of absolute disbelief and shock!

Oliver (pictured with fiancée Vicky) has won an eight-night luxury getaway to Sri Lanka – including flights – courtesy of Metro and Secrets Of Ceylon.

‘You see these competitions in the paper and you wonder if people actually win them. Well, they do! It was the best way to beat the January blues.’

He will be taking his fiancée Vicky Jarvis, who also can’t wait – their wedding plan to go to Disneyland, Florida, was scuppered by lockdown.

In Sri Lanka, they’ll enjoy full-board stays at the cosy Villa Hundira in Thalahena, Negombo, with its fine views and local cuisine, the W15 Hanthana Estate (featuring butler service), and the Tabula Rasa Resort in Habaraduwa, near Galle, which offers massages, yoga and infinity pools.

‘The hotels look amazing,’ adds Oliver. ‘I’m really looking forward to relaxing and getting away from the snowy UK!’

Oliver is our first Getaway winner – stay tuned for more great prizes.
